Do you remember when you started to program?
Although I'm not really that old, I didn't start to program until my third year of college. In high school, I learned to type on a typewriter and I didn't email until I got to college. I attribute most of my typing ability to having played the piano since I was 10. I stumbled into life as a developer because I like logical philosophy courses and was a teaching assitant for a calculus class using Calculus & Mathematica at Ohio State. How do syllogisms and calculus combine ... apparently into computer science.
I stumbled onto a blog of one of my teammates today who is helping his son get started with programming. Together they are creating a website after school (what a great idea). They are hosting the site on godaddy.com and describe the process for getting the website live.
Challenge: A lot of people could benefit from all of us reaching out to show a quick wonder of the web. My challenge to you ... find someone you know, (a brother, sister, cousin, friend) who wants to do something online and help them get started. If you're looking for something fun, I'd try Popfly.
Popfly has been nominated for C|Net's Webware 100 . It's a mash-up engine for mashing together sets of web-services. You can also add the mash-up to your Facebook Profile when your finished.
What did I do? I helped my mom create a photo calendar for my dad. I also helped a friend get started using Visual Studio and C# using the Beginner Developer Learning Center.
Tag, you're it.
