Digigirlz kicks off in Los Angeles

California DigiGirlz Celebrate Movies

At the first-ever DigiGirlz Day (held at the Microsoft Irvine, CA MTC), 105 girls from the area explored technology around a movie theme at a full day of hands-on activities. First they shot original short movies using Windows Mobile 6 phones, then they edited those movies with Movie Maker or Expression Blend/Encoder. Next the girls published their work to Windows Live Spaces using Silverlight streaming. The last activity was to connect to DigiGirlz in other cities using Unified Communications.

DigiGirlz is a global program, hosted annually by Microsoft. Many hosting locations hold both a spring DigiGirlz day and then a summer (multi-day) DigiGirl camp. The program is designed to give high school-aged girls exposure to career opportunities in technology. For more information see https://www.microsoft.com/about/diversity/programs/digigirlz.mspx.
