Bar Camp Texas: Social Marketing
I arrived late to the Bar Camp ... not to untypical for a conference. I attended about half of the first two sessions at 2:00 Designing Web sites & Social Marketing. The social marketing discussion was interesting. Nikhil Nilakantan introduced us to Social Span Media a group who connects businesses to Social Media Outlets like Facebook, MySpace, etc. His company will create a Facebook application for your company or help you to advertise and market. Ironically, our Microsoft Student Partners are giving talks at 100 local campuses this month on "How To Develop a Facebook Application" ... find out if we have a Student Partner on your campus here (Choose "Find Microsoft Student Partners") <shameless plug, I run this program :)>.
There were 50-75 folks in the audience and 90% of folks said they were on at least 2 social sites. My favorite idea from the audience ... wouldn't it be great if there was data synchronization or standardization of data on these sites.
What came to mind during the talk? The New Influencers: A Marketer's Guide to the New Social Media by Paul Gillin If you're thinking of leveraging social aspects for you business this is a must read. Then contact Social Span Media :)
btw, Paul, why did you name your book "The New Influencers" without buying the domain thenewinfluencers.com? Is the "the" in or out?
