Bar Camp Texas
Bar Camp Texas is in Bryan Today! Not too many folks get lucky enough to have a Bar Camp get organized right in their backyard, but I am one of them. I've never been to a Bar Camp before so please excuse (and correct!) any statements that may display my ignorance.
What's a Bar Camp? I had the exact same question a year ago when I took this job. A Bar Camp is an "unconference" where a community of folks decide to get together and discuss topics of interest. To quote directly ...
"A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees."
What happens? People show up and sign themselves in. Sign up for talks on a Whiteboard and give talks that are about 50% discussion and 50% presentation.
What's cool so far? It's very informal, it has coffee, it is a lot of entrepreneurs and self-starters ... my kind of people
What's not cool? the talks move very quickly from one to another and are only a half an hour, good for my short attention span ... bad for moving back between the two tracks. Also, I have a baby and it was a little hard to figure out what was when to make sure I had a babysitter and could participate fully.
