Not a Kindle

If you like the Kindle idea of reading books on a portable device, but you don’t want to go the e-book only route, try Adobe Digital Editions. Anything in their library that is not yet in the public domain (50 years after publishing), is limited to just the first chapter, but there’s lots of good stuff out there in the PD. I’m working on Bram Stoker’s Dracula on my netbook.

Would be a little easier if I could spin the screen and lay it flat (like my Toshiba M7), but I’m sure those changes are coming to the netbook market in the near future. That and multi-touch displays. The panning and gestures features in Windows 7 is missing in Beta 1 – I hope it’s back in the RC version later. (Look under Pen and Touch in CP – there *might* be a tab called panning).
