The Wit of Washington Dies at 81
Art Buchwald is dead at the ripe old age of 81. A brilliant political satirist, I read Mr. Buchwald's syndicated daily column in my hometown newspaper, the Scranton Times, for years and years and years. A peanut farmer from Georgia was in the White House when I first discovered Mr. Buchwald. Art was possessed of a wonderful sensibility that imbued his work with charm, brilliance and relevance. Through the Regan and Bush years he remained charming and brilliant, but became increasingly less relevant to me as my own political views matured. I finally put him down during Clinton's first term, but to this day whenever I would spot his by line I would stop and read and always smile.
Bon voyage, sir.
