IBM to buy Telelogic

I am a little delayed on this but wanted to make sure I let those of you that didn't know that on June 11th 2007, IBM announced it will buy Telelogic for approximately $745 million. The deal is expected to close in 3Q07. Telelogic will become part of IBM's Rational Software division.

Telelogic is known for their Enterprise architecture tools and requirements management software. The EA products of interest is System Architect which was recently acquired from Popkin. Telelogic's DOORS solution is been around for a long time to manage requirements gathering and management.

As shown above according to Gartner, System Architect is the clear leader in the EA space.

It will be interesting to see what IBM does with the product line. Many folks including myself are disappointed in the results of the IBM and Rational acquisition. Being a former Rational user I found that the tools were completely bastardized and the value diminished. I am afraid the same may happen with Telelogic tools. Time will tell.
