Applying Formatting to Multiple Visio Shapes At One Time

I’ve got a nasty cold right now. That first few weeks after school starts is one big sick-fest with kids happily swapping bugs and then bringing them home. So this will be a short blog.

I promise to spend more time on developer topics next week, I know I’ve been neglecting you.

In previous blogs, I’ve talked about cool formatting that you can apply to shapes to make them look beautiful. If you don’t have any connectors between shapes, you can always cut and paste your pretty shape to create more pretty shapes. But if your connectors are already in place, you don’t want to mess with the layout of your drawing unless you really need to – instead, you can just apply the formatting in the shape that you like to the shapes that you don’t.

I’ve already mentioned in another blog that you can use the Format Painter on your toolbar to apply one shape's formatting to another shape. Another PM named Kelly showed me a cool thing today. If you double-click the Format Painter icon, you can turn on the painting operation and apply the formatting to multiple shapes at a single time! So, select the beautiful shape that you’ve spent all this time making pretty, and go up the Format Painter icon and click twice. Your pointer will have a paintbrush icon, and you can select any number of shapes to apply that same formatting to it. Click the Format Painter icon again to turn it off. I do like finding things that save me time.

I am going home soon to drink tea with honey.
