The easy way to get hold of MSMQ hotfixes

This isn't news but I thought I should highlight it in case its new to you.

If you want a hotfix for a problem Microsoft has resolved in MSMQ (or in any other of their products) then you don't need to phone in and raise a support request.

You can instead use the Hotfix Request Web Submission Form to request a patch. The SLA is eight business hours so basically the next day you should receive an email with the download link in it. Make sure "Microsoft.com" is in your email safe list and check your Junk Mail folder if you don't seem to receive anything from Microsoft Online Customer Service and Support.

As commented, the process for obtaining hotfixes has changed.

The Hotfix Request Web Submission Form has been retired in favour of links within the Knowledgebase articles themselves. For example:

FIX: Error message when you use Report Manager in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to view a report: "The request failed with an empty response"

has a Resolution as follows:

To resolve this problem, submit a request to Microsoft Online Customer Services to obtain the hotfix. To submit an online request to obtain the hotfix, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

The links have not been rolled out to ALL KnowledgeBase articles (for a variety of reasons) and for those the Resolution is the old-school one:

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.

    It looks like this form has been "removed" within the past few weeks in favor of clicking some link directly from the specific hotfix page, but I can't find any link on the hotfix page for getting the hotfix. As an example, try getting a hotfix for the NetMsmq memory leak: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936512/en-us

    I've contacted the program managers involved and will see what they plan to do. For example, the KB article "Submit an online request to obtain a Microsoft hotfix" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=935195) still points to the old Hotfix Request Web Submission Form so the official resource is out of synch with the new process.
