August 2010 Feature Update for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is Now Available on ECE

The August 2010 Feature Update for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is now available on ECE. This update is a collection of out-of-band features and tools and includes:

  • Web Services on Devices API for .NET for Windows Embedded Standard 2009

    • The Microsoft Web Services on Devices API for .NET (WSDAPI for .NET) supports the implementation of client-controlled devices and services and device hosts conforming to the Devices Profile for Web Services (DPWS) under .NET Framework technologies. DPWS is a reference specification that assembles and constrains a number of Web Service specifications for typical embedded environments. WSDAPI for .NET can be used for the development of both client and service solutions based on the DPWS stack.

    • This update also includes the Web Services on Devices API for .NET SDK.

  • Windows Embedded Standard 2009 SLD Export Tool

    • The Windows Embedded Standard 2009 SLD Export Tool is a power toy designed to help Windows Embedded developers easily search for and update resources in .sld files. The tool exports .sld files to Microsoft Excel where text search and editing can be performed on the data and then exported back to a .sld file. The SLD Export Tool supports the following features:

      • Exporting the following resource types from a .sld file into an Excel workbook:

        • File

        • Registry Key

        • Dependencies

        • Exporting updated Excel file back to a .sld file format

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 for Windows Embedded Standard 2009

    • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 is Microsoft's comprehensive and consistent programming model for building applications that have visually stunning user experiences, seamless and secure communication, and the ability to model a range of business processes. The .NET Framework 4 works side by side with older Framework versions. Applications that are based on earlier versions of the Framework will continue to run on the version targeted by default.

    • Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is a setup component that includes the .NET Framework 4 installer and its required dependencies.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Prerequisites for Windows Embedded Standard 2009

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Prerequisites for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is a macro component that ensures the correct prerequisite dependencies are present on a runtime to support SQL Server 2008 R2 Express -the free edition of SQL Server for powering desktop, web and small server applications.

Hello, will the "Web Services on Devices API for .NET" ever be available outside the Windows Embedded World? What license applies to WSDAPI .NET? Where can I find more detailed information about its features (IPv6? WS-Security? Reliable Messaging?...). So many questions... Would be glad if you contacted me under schoech (at) itm (dot) uni-luebeck.de Regards, Winfried
