Geek is Chic

Microsoft held its fifth annual DigiGirlz Day at our Microsoft Technology Center (MTC) in Waltham on Friday, March 25th (check out some pictures below). Microsoft celebrates women’s history month in March with various events held throughout the Northeast geography and we especially love DigiGirlz Days because they excite and promote science, technology and math to high school girls. Seventy teen girls attended from Dedham, Millbury, Sutton, Walpole, and Westborough High Schools.

The girls began the day with a presenter from RoboTech to discuss careers in technology and demonstrate some fun and interactive robotics with volunteer participation. We had representatives from WGBH’s Dot Diva Program come on-site and conduct breakout activities in small groups to learn about how fun technology can be. The girls participated in career discussions with successful women at Microsoft as well as a senior leader at BT Global Services, one of Microsoft’s local partners.

In addition to various technology demonstrations and hands on activities in our Envisioning Center, there was a game design session where the students interact with Kinect for Xbox 360, Kodu and Surface. The event provided many opportunities for the girls to collaborate as teams and present to peers and staff on future technology solutions. We are passionate about our commitment to STEM education and our Digigirlz events help us introduce girls to the wide and FUN world of technology!

Microsoft’s NERD also held a DigiGirlz event on March 18, which you can read about here
