Live vs. Google Search

Most people I talk to use Google for Internet search. Google returns relevant results fast.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has made a ton of progress with Internet search (https://www.live.com). In fact, I can now say that Live Search is at least as good as Google search. In some cases, it's actually better! The local maps integration is better - so if you're looking for a specific place, Live search does a better job of showing you. In the past, I was trying to be a good corporate citizen by using Microsoft search... but now I can confidently say that it -is- better. In fact, I only use live.com for search.

In any case, I don't think people will move to Live.com search overnight. Google has a ton of mindshare so users will only move to Live.com if Live.com offers other tangible benefits... but if I were Google, I would be very scared. :-)

I actually moved several friends and family to live.com search... at first they didn't believe me, but after checking it out themselves, they did find that Live.com was as good and in some cases better than Google... and now have switched! In fact, one of these ex-Google search users found this interesting search result from google.com when you search for "search" as the search phrase. Interesting, huh? Even Google admits Live search is better. :-P

Have you tried the same search on Live? The top result is Google. Seems everything is very chummy in the search engine game these days...http://www.freeimagehost.eu/image/f773e6222689

I tried the same search on live.com and the first result is not Google. Not sure how you got that result.

Why people use google?http://alpesh.nakars.com/blog/2006/12/04/google-services-part-1/I do agree with Arpan, live(msn search) has come a long way. There is always room for improvement. Agreed Google is what you would suggest to someone, but how about go search Microsoft Network(MSN) to people who come asking you queries about Microsoft Products. After all who doesn't use Microsoft. You gotta admit, whatever IT is today, its all because of Microsoft!Good one Arpan.

Arpan,As Gavin says, it seems to relate to the en-gb parameter in the query string. Gave me a chuckle.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on the location piece.  If I search for "bicycle san francisco" on both Google and live (looking for a bike shop in SF) I get a nice map and some location information on Google.  On Live, I get a list of text.  Although much of the same info is there (although the results themselves are better on Google), the display that Google gives me us much preferred.  As always, MSFT is just a few steps behind, copying the big guys.

Walmart shows up alot more often than a Macys.  It doesnt mean it delivers a better product :). The only thing MSFT has done right in terms of search and the web, is their map service. Specifically the bird's eye view, but even that is spotty. Leave it to google or yahoo to complete that project right.Live is a horrible search engine, make this blog at least somewhat objective.
