To install a router (offline request) certificate

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  3. On the Welcome page, click Request a certificate, click Advanced certificate request, and then click Create and submit a request to this CA.

  4. In Certificate Template, select Router (Offline request), or the name of the template that the CA administrator directed you to choose.

  5. In Name, type the user account name that is used by the calling router.

  6. Under Key Options, select the Mark keys as exportable and Store certificate in the local computer certificate store check boxes.

  7. Confirm the other options that you want, and then click Submit.

  8. A message appears that asks you to confirm that you trust this Web site and that you want to request a certificate. Click Yes, and then, on the Certificate Issued page, click Install this certificate.

A message informs you that a new certificate has been successfully installed.

Notes

  • To open Internet Explorer, click Start, point to All programs, and then click Internet Explorer.

  • Windows 2000 CAs included a template, called Router (Offline request), which allowed exportable keys. In the Windows Server 2003 family, CAs require you to create a special template to allow keys to be exported.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
