To save data to a log file

  2. Right-click the System Monitor details pane and click Save Data As.

  3. Type the name of the saved log file and select the format.

  4. Enter the data filter (value n) for the saved log file in Reduce log file size by only writing one out of everynoriginal log records.

Notes

  • To perform this task, you do not need administrative credentials on the local computer.

  • To open Performance, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Performance.

  • To select a log file or a SQL server as the data source, see Related Topics.

  • The Save Data As feature only works on log files and not on real-time data.

  • Only the counters that are currently loaded from the log and are displayed in the current view will be relogged, or resampled.

  • Although the extension for a log file is .blg, the file format is changed in the Windows Server 2003 family and therefore cannot be read on an earlier version of the operating system. For example, if you copy a binary file from Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, to Windows 2000, you will be unable to read it on the latter system.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
