Reset the Routing and Remote Access service

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To reset the Routing and Remote Access service

Open Routing and Remote Access.
Right-click the computer name for which you want to reset the Routing and Remote Access service, and then click Disable Routing and Remote Access.
Right-click the computer name for which you want to reset the Routing and Remote Access service, and then click Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access.
Follow the instructions in the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup wizard.
When prompted to start the Routing and Remote Access service, click Yes.

Notes

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group. As a security best practice, consider using the Run As command rather than logging on with administrative credentials. If you have logged on with administrative credentials, you can also open Routing and Remote Access by clicking Start, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Routing and Remote Access. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.
This procedure resets the current configuration back to the default values based on your selection of options in the Routing and Remote Access wizard. This includes removing all IP routing protocols and their configurations.
Resetting the Routing and Remote Access service does not reset your remote access policies.
