Wireless Network Provisioning
Note Wireless Provisioning Services (WPS) is no longer available as of Windows Vista.
Wireless network provisioning is a process in which profiles for a WISP wireless connection can be created and configured through data stored in XML files.
The XML files are stored on the client through the WPS provisioning store. WPS manages the XML files in the provisioning store based on the domain of the WISP.
XML files can be added to the provisioning store through the following methods:
Automatic Provisioning
When the user attempts to connect to a WISP wireless network and the WISP's domain is not found in the provisioning store, XML files are automatically downloaded from the WISP and stored for the WISP's domain.Programmatic Pre-provisioning
An application or setup program can add XML files through the WPS IProvisioningDomain::Add method. After the XML files have been added, they can be used to provision the WISP's wireless network profile, including hotspot locations and branding information. As a result, the provisioning data is available before the user attempts to connect to the WISP network.Note This method cannot be used to add XML files for a WISP domain that currently exists in the provisioning store.
