User Account Setup

Developers connecting to a shared component database need to log on to their development systems using a network domain user account. They then log on to the SQL Server database with a SQL Server login ID and access the component database with a SQL Server user ID.

When developers use a network domain user account to log on to a development environment where the database server is located on a different system than the Windows® Embedded Studio for Windows XP Embedded tools, their cached credentials are used to connect to the SQL Server database.

If the database server is not a member of a network domain, you need to create a matching user account on the SQL Server system for each user that needs to connect to the database. Use the same user name and password as the user account for the Windows Embedded Studio development system.

The system administrator who installs the database and the component database engine holds all permissions in the database. Any other user requiring access to the component database must have a SQL Server user account. You can create a SQL Server user account using Enterprise Manager.
