The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\DUN registry key can be used to determine if the current device is functioning as an external modem to another device.

Indicates whether Dial-up Networking is actively connected over either a USB or Bluetooth connection. If this value is set to 1, Dial-up Networking is actively connected over a USB or Bluetooth connection. If this value is set to 0, Dial-up Networking over USB or Bluetooth is disconnected. If this value is not present, the system has not yet connected with Dial-up Networking from the time that the system was booted up. |
