Integrating a Windows CE OS Design (Windows CE 5.0)

OS design integration is the process of combining all Windows CE–based components and applications for your target device and adding them into the run-time image for your device.

OEMs and original device manufacturers (ODMs), system integrators (SIs), and device integrators (DIs) perform OS design integration.

To integrate a Windows CE-based OS design

  1. From the Platform Builder New Platform Wizard, create an OS design.

For more information, see Creating an OS Design with the New Platform Wizard.

  2. From the Catalog, add components to or remove components from your OS design.

For more information, see Adding to an OS Design and Removing a Catalog Item from an OS Design.

  3. Configure the components.

  4. Import components and applications to your OS design.

You can use the following Platform Builder tools to create and import new .cec files:

    • CEC Editor
    • Export Wizard
    • Catalog importer

For more information about these tools, see CEC Editor, Export Wizard Overview, and Manage Catalog Items Dialog Box.

  5. Build your run-time image using either the command line or the IDE.

For information about how to build your run-time image using the command line, see Build Tool.

For information about how to build your run-time image using the IDE, see Building a Run-Time Image.

  6. Roll an SDK using either the command line or the Export SDK Wizard.

For information about how to configure and build an SDK using the command line, see Building an SDK from the Command Line.

For information about how to configure and build an SDK using the Export SDK Wizard, see Configuring an SDK.

  7. Debug, test, and diagnose your OS design.

For more information, see Tools for Debugging and Testing.

  8. If you have not completed adding components to or removing components from your OS design, repeat steps 2 through 7.
