Setting up the NEC Solution Gear 2-Vr4131 Development Kit Hardware (Windows CE 5.0)

Use the following steps to connect the NEC Solution Gear 2-Vr4131 Development Kit to a development workstation.

To set up the NEC Solution Gear 2-Vr4131 Development Kit hardware

  1. On the baseboard, insert the CPU card into connector CN7.

  2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the network connector on the Solution Gear 2-Vr4131and to the development workstation or Ethernet hub.

  3. Connect a NULL modem cable to the debug serial port.

    Note   On the baseboard, the PMON debug serial port is on the bottom while the Windows CE debug serial port is on the top.

  4. Insert the video card into one of the PCI slots on the baseboard.

  5. On the baseboard, be sure that JP9 and JP10 short-circuits position 2-3.

    This is the opposite of the SG2-Vr5500.

  6. On the baseboard, be sure that JP11 short-circuits position 2-3.

    This is the opposite of the SG2-Vr5500.

  7. On the connector CN6 on the baseboard, connect the ATX power supply.

    Wait 10-15 seconds after you turn on the power to the ATX power supply.

  8. Press S1 to turn the system on, or press S2 to perform a soft reset of the device.

    Warning   Pressing S1 on the baseboard turns off the ATX power supply, but the 5V backup power is still on. Before removing the CPU card from the baseboard, turn off the main power switch on the ATX power supply. If the power switch on the ATX power supply is not off when you remove the CPU card, damage to both the CPU card and the baseboard will occur.
