Checklist: Copying a virtual machine and virtual hard disk

Use the System Preparation tool (Sysprep) on the guest operating system to prepare the virtual hard disk for distribution. |

Shut down the virtual machine that you want to copy. |

Use the file system to copy the virtual machine configuration file and virtual hard disk file and paste them in the folder where you want to store them. |

Use the file system to rename the virtual machine configuration file. |

Add the copied virtual machine to Virtual Server. |

If you want to modify the virtual machine's properties or add optional components such as a virtual SCSI adapter, additional virtual hard disks, or additional virtual network adapters, configure the virtual machine as needed. |

If you want to configure startup options such as automatic startup or a user account under which to run the virtual machine, modify the appropriate virtual machine property. |
Note
Guest operating system licenses are not included with Virtual Server. You must ensure that you are appropriately licensed for all operating systems and applications that you install on a virtual machine.
