After you have installed and configured the farm and deployed your solution, you will need to configure the ongoing operations for your environment.

Configure content deployment

Only farm administrators can configure content deployment jobs. Authors and end users can run content deployment jobs.

Configure search

Search settings at the farm level and site collection level need to be configured separately in both the production farm and the authoring farm. The authoring farm will be indexed by the existing Search shared service provider (SSP) within the current collaboration environment — it will not have its own index server.

Action	Add the authoring farm to the already-configured SSP that provides services to multiple Office SharePoint Server 2007 collaboration farms. Using an SSP across farms provides centralized administration of services and also reduces the number of services that provide the same role. Update the search settings, such as crawl rules, at the farm level and the search settings, such as scopes, at the site-collection level in the authoring farm. Crawl the authoring farm. Test that search returns expected results for the authoring farm. Configure the SSP on the production farm to provide search results to the users of the Internet site. Configure the business data catalog service

The business data catalog service is required for a site feature: the Web part connecting to the back-end career opportunities database.

Action	Configure the authoring farm as the SSP for the business data catalog. Configure the access account. Configure authorization and shared services permissions for site administrators of the Internet presence site.
Outcome	Functioning business data catalog shared service. Service configured to support the career opportunities database.

Configure backup and test recovery

The backup system for this environment requires that you use both Office SharePoint Server 2007 and SQL Server to perform backups. Office SharePoint Server 2007 backups protect the SSPs, and SQL Server backups protect the databases.

Configure database maintenance

To maintain the performance and reliability of your system, you must set up and run regular database maintenance jobs.

Action	Provide the Database maintenance (Office SharePoint Server 2007) white paper to your database administration team, and ask members of the team to implement the recommendations that it contains.
