Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11 Requirements and Installation

This page provides software and hardware requirements and installation instructions for the Microsoft Speech Platform Runtime 11 and the Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11.

Important

All features and functionality of the Speech Platform SDK 11 (with the exception of the Microsoft Grammar Development Tools) are NOT supported by Windows XP.

Note

Development of speech-enabled applications is supported on:

  • Windows Vista or later

  • Windows 2003 Server or later

  • Windows 2008 Server or later

Deployment of speech-enabled applications is supported on:

  • Windows 2003 Server or later

  • Windows 2008 Server or later

Hardware Requirements

The following are the minimum and recommended hardware requirements for the Speech Platform Runtime 11 and Speech Platform SDK 11.

Minimum Hardware Requirements

  • 1 GHz CPU

  • 512 MB RAM

  • 10 GB hard drive

  • Ethernet network adapter

  • DX9-compatible video card, with 2.0 pixel shader and vertex shader support (used by some of the graphics and user interface development tools included with the XDK)

  • USB 2.0

  • Dual 2GHz CPU

  • 1 GB RAM

  • 40+ GB SATA hard drive

  • Ethernet network adapter

  • DX9-compatible video card, with 3.0 pixel shader and vertex shader support (when available)

  • Two USB 2.0 host controllers, which are required when you use DVD emulation and performance analysis tools simultaneously

Installing the Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11

Use the following steps to install the Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11.

To install the Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11

  1. Uninstall any previous version of the Speech Platform SDK and the Microsoft Speech Platform Runtime from your computer.

  2. Verify that you have installed the Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0. If necessary, download the .NET Framework 4.0 using this link. The .NET Framework must be installed before you install the Speech Platform Runtime 11 and the Speech Platform SDK 11.

  3. Determine whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

  4. Download the Speech Platform Runtime 11 that matches your operating system using this link.

  5. Download the Speech Platform SDK 11 that matches your operating system using this link.

  6. Install the SpeechPlatformRuntime.msi.

  7. Install the MicrosoftSpeechPlatformSDK.msi.

Important

The Speech Platform Runtime 11 and the Speech Platform SDK 11 do not include Runtime Languages for speech recognition or for speech synthesis (TTS or text-to-speech). You must install them separately. A Runtime Language includes the language model, acoustic model, and other data necessary to provision a speech engine to perform speech recognition or TTS in a particular language. There are separate Runtime Languages for speech recognition or speech synthesis. The version of Runtime Languages that you download (for example, version 11.0) must match the version of the Speech Platform Runtime that you have installed.
