Windows Media Device Manager Architecture
The following diagram shows how the components of the Windows Media Device Manager SDK work with application software and portable audio devices to transfer content in a secure manner.
As shown in the diagram, Windows Media Device Manager interacts with both the application and the service provider. Direct calls by the application or service provider to the Microsoft Secure Content Provider are not necessary because Windows Media Device Manager communicates directly with the digital rights management system located on the client's computer. The service provider is layered on top of the file system and device driver of the portable audio player.
Note For portable devices or portable media to transfer SDMI-protected content using the Windows Media Device Manager SDK, they must have a unique serial number.
