Using the Warning List
You can filter a Defect Log by selecting the warnings that you want to display or hide from the warning list. You can begin without a preset filter or apply a preset filter and then
change it to suit your needs. The changes are effective immediately, but you can't save the changes.
To filter a Defect Log
In a build environment window, navigate to the directory in which you ran PREfast for Drivers.
Use a PREfast View command to open a Defect Log.
Click Filter.
Select a preset filter from the Presets list, if desired. You can also click the Invert button to reverse the settings. This clears the selected warnings and selects the cleared warnings.
In the warning list, scroll down past the warning sets to find the check boxes for each warning in the log.
To hide occurrences of a warning, clear the check box for the warning.
To show occurrences of a warning, select the check box for the warning.
Click Apply.
The following screen shot shows a Defect Log before it is filtered. Notice that the Recommended Filters title appears in the Presets box, indicating that no preset filters are applied. Also, all of the warning check boxes are selected, indicating that all of the warnings are displayed and none are hidden.
When you clear the check box for a warning, any instances of the warning immediately disappear from the Message List. When you select the check box for a warning, any instances of the warning immediately reappear in the Message List.
The following screen shot shows that when you clear the check box for Warning 6029, and then click Apply, all instances of Warning 6029 are hidden in the log. To show them again, select the check box for Warning 6029, and then click Apply.
