Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 User Experience Guidelines

The goals of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 User Experience Guidelines, “UX Guide” for short, are to:

  • Help you develop high quality applications that delight customers.

  • Answer your specific user experience questions.

  • Promote consistency in the applications that are delivered to customers.

Use these guidelines when you design new features, improve existing features, and update features from earlier versions. These guidelines will help you make the best choices for your users and create a user experience that is easy and enjoyable.

These guidelines apply to Microsoft Dynamics NAV application development for Microsoft Windows, for web, and for Microsoft SharePoint. However, because some program features are available only on Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, not all guidelines apply when you are developing for web or for SharePoint.

For details about the differences between Microsoft Dynamics NAV platforms, and for help using the Microsoft Dynamics NAV development environment and tools, see the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer and IT Pro documentation.

How to work with the guidelines

Dependent on your needs, different sections of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV User Experience Guidelines are most relevant to you. Here’s a brief overview of this content:

  • If you are new to the RoleTailored client or to the Microsoft Dynamics NAV application development, we recommend that you start by reading Design Principles and its related topics.

  • If you are looking for specific page design templates and checklists, see the User Interface Design Guidelines.

  • If you are looking for user interface layout, component, and text guidelines, see Components and Controls.

  • If you want guidance about how to design reports, see Report Design Guidelines.
