How to: Explode Assembly BOMs
You can explode an assembly BOM, that is, expand it to show the individual items on the BOM. If a component in an assembly BOM is an assembly BOM itself, then you can expand it and replace it with its components.
You can use the Explode BOM function both for assembly items on sales order lines and in the assembly BOM itself.
To explode an assembly BOMs on sales order lines
In the Search box, enter Sales Order, and then choose the related link.
Select a sales order line that contains an assembly item.
On the Lines FastTab, choose Functions, and then choose Explode BOM.
All fields on the sales order line with the assembly item are cleared except for the Description field. The components that comprise the assembly item are inserted on new sales order lines.
Warning
When you have used the Explode BOM function to expand a sales order line, then you cannot collapse the sales order line again. To undo the action, you must delete the sales order lines representing the components and then reenter a sales order line for the assembly item.
To explode an assembly BOM within an assembly BOM
In the Search box, enter Items, and then choose the related link.
Select an item where the Assembly BOM field is set to Yes.
On the Navigate tab, in the Assembly/Production group, choose Assembly, and then choose Assembly BOM.
In the Assembly BOM window, select a line where the Assembly BOM field is set to Yes.
On the Actions tab, in the General group, choose Explode BOM
The parent item on the assembly BOM line is removed, and the components that comprise it are inserted on new assembly BOM lines.
