Using Asynchronous Pluggable Protocols web sites can have the support of client based applications using Internet Explorer. These applications are developed and the protocols registered on the client. An example to such a protocol is MAILTO that invokes a local e-mail client. Using Asynchronous Pluggable Protocols other protocols can be supported. Such protocols could include MMSTO and SMSTO.

This section provides information about creating an asynchronous pluggable protocol handler and a MIME filter.

For debugging tips when implementing Asynchronous Pluggable Protocols see this Microsoft Web site.

For information on how to register an Application to a URL Protocol see the Microsoft Web Site.

  • Using Asynchronous Pluggable Protocols
Describes asynchronous pluggable protocols that enable you to create pluggable protocol handlers, MIME filters, and namespace handlers that work with URL monikers in Internet Explorer.
