Two of the three methods for creating shortcuts to TSClient units result in damage after logoff / logon

Troubleshooting

There are three methods used to create a shortcut (or favorite) to a mapped drive TSClient RDS within a session. Two of the methods result in a shortcut that works within the current session, but to log on and log off the shortcut becomes invalid .

1) Click on the desktop session on RDS and choose New -> Shortcut. Then navigate to the folder on drive c: TS client that you want to connect. When you have finished the shortcut will refer to a path like \ \ tsclient \ c $ \ Windows for example. This link will work throughout the session RDS. After log off and on, the shortcut will still work. The path referenced in the shortcut is \ \ tsclient \ c $ \ Windows and it will open.

2) Using Windows Explorer, naveguemos to drive c: Customer (\ \ tsclient \ c $) and then right-click a folder and choose send to-> Desktop (create shortcut). This will create a Desktop shortcut in Windows that makes reference to \ \ tsclient \ c $ \ windows as an example. This link will work only while the RDS session becomes active. After logging off and any attempt to double click on this icon will not result in nothing.

3) Using Windows Explorer, naveguemos to drive c: Customer (\ \ tsclient \ c $) and then naveguemos for a subfolder that you want to keep the path (the Windows folder in the examples). Now for naveguemos left pane of the window to put the folder of bookmarks in the view. Now click Favorites and select "Add current location to your bookmarks." This will put the folder of the Windows client unit in the list. This favorite will continue to work RDS for the duration of the session. After logging off and this bookmark will no longer work. Trying clicking on it will generate an error in Explorer that says "Unspecified error".

Workaround

This is a known bug and there is only a workaround below.

  • Instead of navigating to the redirected drive through a shortcut on the computer in Windows Explorer, navigate to the redirected drive in Windows Explorer using the UNC path (eg \ \ tsclient \ C) and then create a shortcut using any of the methods listed. Shortcuts created using this method will continue to work after the session disconnect
