How to Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7 Using USMT

In my earlier article I discussed a strategy about how to upgrade Windows XP machines to Windows 7 using an in-place method.  My method essentially used Windows Vista as an interim OS.  If done properly via automation and deployment tools, it would only add about an additional 30 minutes to an hour to the deployment process.

I also briefly mentioned a method using the User State Migration Toolkit (USMT) but didn’t go into much detail because of the complexity involved.  Fortunately, Jeremy Chapman has recorded a great video showing how the USMT works and how you can use it to migrate from legacy Windows OSes, Windows XP and prior!
