Today is a good day to be in Redmond
I’ve been buried in the nooks, crannies and corridors of Redmond for the last few months but today I poked my head above the parapet and strolled by the Company Store (needed a new Xbox Live Gold membership). Lines are forming outside the store for the arrival of Kinect and the staff had a look of trepidation as they stacked the boxes inside the store. The girl behind the counter looked at me like I was weird and asked why I was taking the photo below – she noted that “everybody does that”. Why? People are proud, people want to share the energy and show their friends. It’s a good day, week and year to be at Microsoft…
….then I wandered over to The Commons (think of it as the hub of our village here in Redmond, shops, banks, music, bars, shops…that sort of thing). People are wandering around with Kinect t-shirts (want one) and there is a demo bar showing off a selection of Windows Phone 7 hardware. There is palpable energy and excitement in the air.
Some days, this place makes me step back and just smile. Today is one of those days….and they even managed to get the sun to shine.
