Room sized 3D computers
This week while visiting Duke University and MIT, our chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie showed a demo of a stereoscopic 3D environment. He played a multiplayer game and showed a retail experience blending virtual and physical environments.
Wall and room sized displays are not that far off as display prices continue to drop and technology like the wedge that Steven Bathiche has shown change how display surfaces can be mounted.
My latest post on the Microsoft Blog talks a little more about Craig’s demo and why it’s another harbinger of the era of Natural User Interfaces.
On the topic of NUI, if you haven’t had chance to read the full article from this months Wired UK about Kinect you’re in for a treat. It’s a breathless ride through the development of an impossible dream. It’s humbling to chat with people like Alex Kipman who is heavily quoted in the article – he’s 31 years old. Wow.
