New Feature: Default links for sharing

Posted: August 15, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Plan for Change | Action: Awareness | Default links is a new feature for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. We'll be gradually rolling this out to First Release customers in August, and the roll out will be completed by the end of the month. Worldwide rollout is expected to begin at the end of August and complete by the end of September. In SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business today, the "Get a link" commands returns anonymous as the default link choice (at which point users can choose a different type of link if required). This feature allows the SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business tenant admin to customize what the "default" link is when a user clicks "get a link". The admin may choose either direct, internal or anonymous access links. This has administrative controls to enable and disable. Anonymous Access is the default choice (unless anonymous access links are disabled in which case internal is selected). Updated Feature: Yammer updates in August

The following features have begun rolling out: (1) Yammer Group feed on iOS, (2) Mark All as Read and (3) Onboarding experience for new Yammer users. Updated Feature: Monthly feature updates for Office 2016 for Office 365

Posted: August 17, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Stay Informed | Action: Awareness | The latest feature updates for Office 2016 for Office 365 are now available. This month’s update includes new feature updates, as well as other security and bug fixes. If you have users configured for Current Channel release updates, you may want to get up to speed on the new features this month. Former OneDrive for Business App will be retired September 9th

Posted: August 18, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Plan for Change | Action: Awareness | We are removing the former OneDrive for Business iOS app from the App Store on September 9, 2016. Users who have the former OneDrive for Business app already installed will be able to continue using it. After September 9th users will no longer receive updates and new users will not be able to find it in the app store. We recommend you administrators instruct your users to install the new OneDrive for iOS App from the Apple App store. With the new app you can now access all your OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, SharePoint Server 2013, and SharePoint Server 2016 files. ADVISORY: Skype for Business Connectivity Requirement Update

Posted: August 18, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Plan for Change | Action: Awareness | We have maintenance planned for Skype for Business, starting August 25, 2016 5:00 PM UTC, and ending August 26, 2016, 2:00 AM UTC. Skype for Business is adding additional capacity to accommodate improved service continuity and high availability. This advisory is to inform you the new capacity will be in production beginning August 25. Along with the addition of the new capacity, the updated connectivity requirements also include the new IP ranges that are necessary for the future IP range consolidation. This maintenance will have no impact to current users at this time. If you have not updated your firewall and ACL rules to the current Skype for Business connectivity requirements, your users may be unable to login to Skype for Business in case of a failover for service continuity during incidents or maintenance. If you have updated the firewall and ACL rules, there will be no impact. If you have not already completed the needed updates, please make sure firewall or ACL rules are updated to current connectivity requirements. If you are using IP Address filtering, review the updates posted in July 2016 to Office 365 URLs and IP Ranges and implement any changes necessary. If you are not using IP Address filtering, there is no action you need to take.

BLOG ROUNDUP Office 365 Network - Aug 19 Release and Roadmap Update

Thank you for all of your input in the community so far! The Office 365 Network could not be where it is today without you and we are on the advent of some major changes based on your feedback. Following this week’s update on our progress so far, we're excited to share news about our roadmap, with the first release planned on 9AM August 19th (PST/UTC-8), and subsequent releases every Friday until the evening of September 1st (PST/UTC-8). Some of the upcoming changes include support of multiple Communities for Microsoft Products and Solutions, the addition of Community Spaces, . To meet the needs of all these communities, we have improved our overall community structure.  From August 19th, you can become a member of the Communities that matter most to you. Within each community are Community Spaces, new personalization options, changes in the header and menu UI and more!

Migrate traditional Distribution Groups to Office 365 Groups

Over the past few months, customers are increasing both the number of Office 365 Groups created and average monthly usage. It’s great to see customers getting value out of the service. If you are using Office 365 and haven’t yet moved traditional Distribution Groups (also known as Distribution Lists or DLs) over to Office 365 Groups, this post lists a few of the advantages of making the move. We’ve listened to feedback that customers want an easy way to transform traditional Distribution Groups to Office 365 Groups and have recently added two sets of tools to meet this request. Distribution Groups aren’t being deprecated in Office 365, but since Office 365 Groups already support most of the scenarios that Distribution Groups do, and add collaborative capabilities not found in Distribution Groups, we’re encouraging the creation of, and migration to, Office 365 Groups. | Resource: Learn more about Office 365 Groups

 

Individualizing instruction with the new Microsoft Forms

When teachers and students using Office 365 Education return to school this year, they’ll be greeted with a big, fat “F” in their app launcher! No, “F” isn’t what you think it means. “F” stands for the “fabulously fantastic” Microsoft Forms. Microsoft Forms is one of many “welcome-back-to-school gifts” specifically focused on the needs of teachers brought to you by Microsoft engineers. Forms is the new “go-to” resource for summative and formative assessments, surveys and so much more! Forms replaces Excel Survey with more user-friendly, engaging and easy-to-manage features. It was made available just under two months ago and the team at Microsoft is already hard at work making it an app for teachers. For example, the team is adding top teacher-requested features like image support, Individual responses (covered in this blog), branching and other improvements to quizzes in Forms. The multiple ways educators and students can use Forms—because of its ease of use—makes it a useful tool for teachers who need easy, efficient and robust tools that include the ability to share information. Teachers who love digging deeper into data will appreciate that you can also download Forms responses into Excel, too. Forms is available by default for any student or teacher using Office 365 Education.

 

NOTEWORTHY Microsoft Stream and Office 365 Video

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had some great discussions with customers who reached out and as a part of our conversations we received very positive feedback on the direction we are taking. Thank you for all your support. We want to use this blog post to answer the questions that customers asked us as many of you may have some of the same questions too, especially, if you were using or evaluating Office 365 Video. We also wanted to do this in a very Stream(y) manner - with a video. We recorded this short video to answer all your questions and talk to how we see both Microsoft Stream and Office 365 Video today and how they evolve in the future.
