Pie in the Sky (February 10, 2012)
A busy week for Larry and I, but no so busy that we couldn’t do some reading. Here’s this week’s collection of what we found interesting…
- Get Started with Node.js + Windows Azure: Resources:List of Azure/Node resources.
- Real World: Considerations When Choosing a Web Role Instance Size: How small should I go?: A detailed looks at different Web Role sizes, with recommendations.
- Open Source OData Tools for MySQL and PHP Developers: Microsoft has released today two open source tools that provide support for the Open Data Protocol (OData) for PHP and MySQL developers working on any platform: the Odata Producer Library for PHP and the Odata Connector for MySQL.
- NEW! Wiki launched for Apache Hadoop on Windows Azure: "The wiki contains overview information about Apache Hadoop, as well as information about the Hadoop offerings on Windows and related Microsoft technologies, including Windows Azure."
- Using PHP with Windows Azure: This is a recording of the excellent presentation Brent Stineman did this week.
- Redis on Windows Azure: Initial work on Redis running on Windows Azure.
- Connection Pool Fragmentation: Use Federations and you won’t need to learn about these nasty problems that come with sharding!: The name sort of says it all.
- MongoDB, Windows Azure (and Node.js): A discussion of what MongoDB is and how you can run it on Windows Azure.
- Unix and Node: A discussion of Node and Unix design/development philosophy. Even if you’re not using Unix or Node, it’s a good read because the design principles discussed are applicable elsewhere.
- Bacbone.io: Like Socket.IO? Like Backbone.js? It’s two great tastes together! Backbone.io lets you synchronize Backbone.js models via Socket.io.
- Ruboto- Ruby’s and Android’s first born: It’s Ruby, on your Android device. What are you waiting for? Go play with it!
Have a great weekend!
