Official Launch Date for SBS 2008 - November 12, 2008

At WPC we announced November 12th 2008 as the official launch date for Windows Small Business Server 2008 and Windows Essential Business Server 2008.  Activities that day will signal general availability of both products in most markets and via most channels, and will kick off launch efforts worldwide. More information about specific launch activities will be communicated in the future.  Code completion of both products and release to manufacturing (RTM)  - hand off to our partners and distributors - will occur prior to the November 12 launch.

Microsoft have announced the worldwide release date of November 12th for Small Business Server 2008. Having a look around SBS2008 RC0 it seems to be a fairly polished product, though it still needs a few bugfixes. We'll have more news when an RTM releas

Hi, I have a question regarding setup otpions under SBS 2008. We currently run SBS 2003 R2 Premium Edition. We have 2 sites connected with 20 users at each site. So we run SBS 2003 R2 Premium at 1 site and 2003 Server +  a second Exchange 2003 server. We have the second exchange server because we are extremely heave email users and due to the nature of the work we must retain all correspondance, so it is not uncommon for a user mailbox to be 1GB. Under 2003 R2 we were able to just be the addiotnal 2003 Server and Exchange Server licence and add them to the SBS domain. Are we  able to do this under the 2008 licence?

"There is no second server license that is included with SBS 2003 premium (R2 or SP1 edition). The second server license they are referring to is included with SBS 2008 premium." Justsomeguy, I am aware that there was no sercond server licence included in SBS 2003 R1 or R2. However you were able to purchase a 2003 Server licence, and a Exchange Server licence and add to the SBS 2003 Premium setup. This did NOT require the purhcase of additional CALS. thus allowing 2 exhange servers to the setup for distrbution across WAN sites. I am trying to confirm if this type of setup is still possible and if I will need to buy any additional CALS to implement it. "I'm wondering if I will be able to run Dynamics Hosted Ed. on this...  Withouth limitation that is on SBS2003 today, where you get workgroup sql. " Are, I also run DynamicsAX (currently v3) and would also be interested in our options for dynamics installations in SBS. We are planning to upgrage to DynamicsAX 2009 in Feb 2009.

Skygazer, With the proper licenses you can add additional Windows and Exchange servers to an SBS 2008 environment.  In fact the premium edition of SBS 2008 includes a second server OS.
