Configuration Reference Update and Help File Downloads
Over the past few months we've been working on an update to the IIS Configuration Reference, which is on IIS.net at the following URL:
https://www.iis.net/configreference
This new update adds several specialized code samples and dozens of additional screen shots for the "How To" sections.
Behind the scenes this new revision incorporates some cool architecture changes that make the configuration reference easier to update. I won't bore anyone with the details, but those modifications have made it possible to introduce one of my favorite features that I've been working on for a while - you can now download the configuration reference for IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5 as compiled help files! This means that you can have a categorized, indexed and searchable offline copy of the configuration reference on your computer. ;-]
The configuration reference help files are available from the following URLs:
I hope you find the new configuration reference and downloadable files helpful. ;-]

By the way, we looked into releasing the configuration reference as a PDF file as well, but it was well over 3,000 pages! So we decided that the compiled help files were way more practical.Anonymous

Couldn't you just post these online so we could find them in Bing?Anonymous

@dirq - The configuration reference is already available online; the URL at the beginning of my blog post has the address that you need to browse to, and that page also contains links to the downloadable versions. FWIW - The configuration reference has always been available and indexed online; we decided sometime later to make the configuration reference available offline in compiled HTML format as a favor to administrators that don't want to go online every time that they want to look something up. BTW - Since the online version of the configuration reference has been around for several years, we added integration functionality with online configuration reference to the IIS Configuration Editor in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. So whenever you are using the IIS Configuration Editor to make changes, you can click the Online Help link in the Actions pane, and your browser will open the corresponding page in the online configuration reference. I hope this helps!
