Little Syncr - FAQ update
I haven't updated Little Syncr in a while. Little Syncr is my application that synchronizes metadata between local image files and photos on Flickr.
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:
Will you update it again?
Yes - I just need to find the time! :)
Little Syncr throws an exception when I try to synchronize my collection of 2,000 / 10,000 / 20,000 photos...
It looks like Little Syncr can only handle about 1000 synchronized photos. Sorry. If you want to sync up more, for now please divide your photos into subdirectories and sync each directory individually.
I want to overhaul the interface to resolve this issue. I am thinking WinFX (of course).
I want to download all of my images from Flickr to my computer, and have Little Syncr stamp them all with local metadata. Can Little Syncr do this?
After I fix the "thousands of images" issue (see above), this will be the first feature I add. I get a lot of requests for this!
Does the Little Syncr metadata interop with Vista?
If you add metadata with Little Syncr, it will be picked up by Vista. I need to do some testing on Vista's metadata format, though, to make sure that Little Syncr will pick it metadata that's added from within Vista's user interface.

Interesting app, Rob. How does it link an image on Flickr with an image on your HD, by title and filename?Anonymous

You never answered the most important question Robert - does it run on a Mac?Anonymous

This is a .NET app right? I only have 256MB RAM on my PC, and thousands of photos in Flickr - will it run? (bearing in mind the number of photos caveat above)Anonymous

Hi Paul,
It uses EXIF metadata to associate the local image with the Flickr image. I add a tag to the image's EXIF data which refers to the Flickr PhotoID. That way, if you move the image around your hard drive or change its filename, it still syncs up.
Hi Tom,
There is an answer to that question right at the top of the "Getting Started" page on the Little Syncr site. There are some good Flickr utilities for the Mac up on the Flickr Services page. I haven't seen the equivalent of Little Syncr, though. If anyone is keen to write something equivalent, I'd be keen to help.
Hi Phil,
Yes, it's a .NET app, deployed as a ClickOnce application. That means that when you download Little Syncr, it will automatically download prerequisites for you (and keep you updated when I release new versions). Little Syncr doesn't mind how many photos you have on Flickr (I have thousands myself) but it can only perform a sync operation on about 1000 images at once. 256 MB of RAM shouldn't be a problem. Please let me know if you give it a try. Hope that helps, RobAnonymous
