Dublin Hands-On Labs, October 12th (Introductory .NET) and 13th/14th (WinFX)

We're going to host two full-day Hands-On Labs in Sandyford in October. The labs are open to anyone interested in .NET, and are designed for two very different audiences.

The first day's lab is an introductory session designed to familiarize you with Visual Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0. The second 2 days (which are separate, and unlikely to be attended by the same audience) are a deep technical look into the future, hosted in free-form style: stay as long as you like and check out whatever you're interested in. Spaces are very limited, so if you're interested, please follow the links below and sign up soon!

Are you curious about what’s new with .NET in 2005? Have you worked with either previous versions of .NET, or other developer technologies, and are looking for a chance to learn the basics?

This is your perfect chance.  In an interactive, day-long hands-on lab, you’ll be introduced to .NET, explore Visual Studio 2005 (the .NET development environment of choice), and build an end-to-end application in .NET that accesses data from a SQL Server 2005 database.

We’ll look at presenting information in a web-based interface using ASP.NET 2.0, and also on a rich client using Windows Forms 2.0. You’ll also explore some of Visual Studio’s new features, in the suite called Team System, that extend it from being about just the developer to being about the whole development process.

This is your opportunity to ask the questions you always wanted to ask about .NET, and explore the developer technologies yourself.

The next generation of Microsoft developer technologies, WinFX, will extend the .NET framework in a number of significant ways. Three components of WinFX – the Windows Communication, Presentation and Workflow Foundations – will change the way software interacts, looks, and flows.

Windows Communication Foundation (former code name “Indigo”) is Microsoft’s unified programming model for building service-oriented applications. Windows Workflow Foundation, recently announced at PDC05, is the programming model, engine and tools for quickly building workflow enabled applications on Windows. Windows Presentation Foundation (formerly code name "Avalon") is the presentation subsystem class libraries in WinFX.

During this day of hands-on labs, you’ll have the opportunity to explore these technologies yourself. The labs are set up in a flexible, self-paced style. You’ll have the chance to meet with other developers interested in the WinFX technologies and work through a variety of high-quality content at your own pace.
