Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000 on Vista to run with Skype...

Microsoft LiveCam NX-6000

As now my notebooks are running on Vista, my old WebCam device was not working due to no support of Vista drivers. So I just need to get a new one. and this is the one I got, Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000.

It attracted me by the slim design, also the lens can be hidden when not use, and can easily docked upon notebook screen without blocking screen area. also the resolution of video can be up to 2 megapixels, and static image can be up to 7.6 metapixels, which is sort of high-ended compared with other webcams.

As it is a certified Vista device, one can just plug the device into a usb port of Vista machine, and windows update will automatically find and install drivers. the initial driver will work with Windows Live Messenger without problems since on the package also stated that it's optimized for live messenger. but when I am trying to use this webcam with Skype, it was kept saying that it can not use the device because other application are using the webcam. the video is not showing at all.

did a search from Google also found some posts about this issue. some posts said that by installing the LiveCam 1.2 driver on the install CD will let the device run on various messengers, so I just installed it and Vista told me that the LiveCam 1.2 driver is not compatible with Vista and need to download the latest driver from Microsoft Hardware site. the latest version of LiveCam right now is version 1.3, the 32bit and 64bit drivers are contained in the same installer.

So I just download it, install it (installing taking some time like 5 mins). and then test NX-6000 with Skype again. It works! so everyting is fine now and I can start using this webcam with various messengers.

The point is , install the latest driver!

it's sad to me that you seem to have accepted the need to buy new hardware due to an OS upgrade. A new OS is no reason to not have driver support for older hardware. It is, In my opinion, a sad excuse.

I have tried every thing to get this camera to work with vista basic and it seems to be totally erratic. It either doesn't work at all and if it does I keep getting error messages whever I try to enter the preferences menu. If you are contemplating [urchasing one of these to use with Vista, don't.

Problems I encountered are exactly the same as Tim's (Oct. 24, 2007).  I'd like to add the LifeCam NX6000 is a failure of Microsoft, if not a fraud.  It's certified for Vista, it says, and Microsoft's home page says taht the drivers for it come with Windows Vista, but it doesn't work at all with Vista.  If some could make it work with the 1.3 version of the software, could we still get the 1.3 version now that there is the newer 1.4 version?  How?  Where? Microsoft?????????????????????????????????

I just paid 99 USD for this camera and I'm regretting it. I'm getting Logitech as soon as this one flaws - so not worth the price. Logitech offers much better for 99 USD.

I have problems using NX-6000 with Skype. I have downloaded latest software from this website. Problem is while talking through Skype keep loosing camera, so it person on another side can not hear me or see. Sometimes if you unplug and plug in camera from USB port helps, but most of the time does not. Does anyone know what can be done?

Ok I have been playing with the NX6000 and Vista since it came out. At first the drivers did not work and I complained to MS, they sent me another camera, as I told the tech support guy a new camera would do no good as it was the drivers, he sent it anyways. When 1.3 and 1.4 drivers came out I did not try it until over the holidays when the in laws showed up. I figured I had an extra camera I would set it up on their PC, and they could do video calls w/ wife and grands kids. I installed the 1.4 drivers on their Vista Home Premium, and while they were here it worked fine. Once they were back in Ohio we had all kinds of issues from no picture, to intermitten picture, to init errors. I went back to my laptop which is new and running Vista Premium, plugged the camera in, it found drivers, loaded the cam, and messenger all works fine. the diffeence is on my new laptop I did not load the Lifecam software or driver package, I just let vista find it. Removed the device and lifecam software from in-laws laptop, rebooted the pc, plugged the cam in, it found the drivers and all works fine now.

I have Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 with all latest patches applied, and bought the NX-6000 with the 1.4 install disk, and this simply does not get past the install stage. If microsoft can't arrange for Vista to install a simple web cam of its own brand to install reliably what chance anything else.

according to my last re-install of my notebook with Vista Enterprise 2 months ago, for NX-6000, when plugged into the notebook, it will automatically search the driver on internet and install the driver without problems. MSN Messenger and Skype are working well with the driver. maybe do a driver update via internet and it will solve the problems. :)

Same problem - NX6000 can not work with Vista; MS claiming there is a free compatibility download, but the link takes you nowhere. In the age of plug and play quite disappointing - MS - Wake up! Do something!

I made the mistake of buying a LifeCam VX-6000, also will not work with Skype, which is all I want to do with it anyway.  It is said to work with 'other software'---so how do I get hold of the other software it works with?

For all the people who have a problem with Microsoft Life Cam NX 6000... If its not working with Skype...Then please uninstall Skype 5.0 version... Coz.......I have tested this and found out that......NX 6000 works only in Skype Version 4.0 .. Try this out.... Uninstall 5.0 and install 4.0... MS LifeCam NX 6000 works in lower version.... ALL THE BEST :)
