What is meant by "Adopting and Adapting" anyway?

I have had a few comments about the title of my blog.  Those of you familiar with ITIL already know the answer.  For those that are not familiar with ITIL, its mantra is that a company should take the framework and “adopt and adapt” it for their environment.  For MOF then, Microsoft has adopted ITIL and adapted it to “provide additional, specific guidance which is applicable to customers using Microsoft technologies within their environments”.  If you are new to the MOF framework, a good place to start is the Executive Overview document.
