Do you hate the Bike Shop?

I have been hating the demo company for Microsoft CRM called Adventure Works Cycle for the past three years. Sometimes the analogy of a Bike Distributor is missed on most people. (They can't make the jump from their company to a bike company.) And cleaning out just some of the data is such a pain, for me it was faster building my own demo image, which made it a pain to share with co-workers. So when building a demo from scratch the other day, I was going to go down that path again, when behold... Run the SampleData Wizard again. One of the options there is to REMOVE the Adventure Works Cycle demo database, so you have a clean database. It is a VERY fast way to be able to start building a demo for your custom demos.

    The AWC really isn't great for going infront of any customer and saying "okay, imagine you're the owner of a bike shop" in your opening statement. Most companies want to hear "We have customized a demo specifically around your business needs" in your opening statement. For this reason, I create most all my demo's from scratch. It is an extremely time consuming process as you know, but I would like to see a bulk edit tool come out for importing data into custom entities for CRM 3.0, as of right now all you can import are accounts, contacts, leads, and campaign responses. If anyone out there knows of a better way to do this, maybe we can all get together and put together a nice little custom data import tool. I would love to be a part of that, let me know what you think.

    NOT that this is supported... But I used to modify the SampleData XML files to change the items from bikes to widgets, store names, etc... So use our tool and give it your own take on life. Would love to figure out if any of you have used that to build any vertical CRM solutions...

    what do you mean by building the Demo from scratch? because the Demo i have, when installing the virtual machine, the demo is already pre-installed....
