Windows 7 and XP Mode, Hardware Virtualization no longer required

We have made some big announcements today around virtualization technologies.  One of the big changes is to XP mode in Windows 7 (Pro, Enterprise and Ultimate).

XP Mode no longer requires Hardware assisted virtualization!  Take a look at the full announcement here:

    YES!!  This will really help out with all of those laptops running the very common T6400, T6500, and T6600 processors.  Now I don't have to install that "other" virtualization product.

    For those companies that would need their business apps installed using XP Mode on exisiting hardware with Windows 7 this could be huge. I know it makes a big difference for us. Windows 7 would work on all our computers. The only 2 things that show up as issues with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor are the graphics cards and XP Mode. We would need XP Mode to run our legacy database app .. kind of important. This may be the hurdle that we jump. I don't care about Aero but I do need applications. I will keep my eye(s) on this one. :-) Terry

    I was glad when I saw this announcement as well!  I think XP Mode offers a great alternative for App compat!

    and still no x64 guest support...until then VMware is better :)
