BizTalk Server 2006 Operations Documentation

How are we doing with the documentation for Operations? Is there content missing, incorrect, unclear, or lacking the depth needed to provide proper operational support? Liza has posted a survey and is looking for feedback. Please take a few minutes and send us your thoughts!

Luke, Please get somebody at MSFT back onto the the BizTalk 2006 tutorials and tutorial-user community, and not temporarily. The mgt seem to have removed all staff like lizal and put them onto other projects.  Her last post was 6 months ago concerning BT tutorials. Am I right?  Did the mgmt at msft take everyone off of the BT tutorials and user community?  And pls don't tell me it's impossible to keep staff "forever" on the tutorials.  The mgt needs to allow the obviously good staff such as those who produced the original tutorials docs and code, to stay with the product and the users for as long as it takes at least 2 hours every day and not force them away to other projects like Operations docs. Why? Because there are still fatal problems on the tutorials as of 2007.  And that's OK we are all human. Mgt at msft must recognize quality is a continuous effort, not to be abandoned by the mgt.
  1. The B2BSolution.sln lives in two paths as of 2007 and both are still referenced in the docs.
  2. There still is no msft-monitoried BT tutorial user forum at msdn or anywhere else for people in and outside MSFT to share troubles and workarounds and get genuine quality feedback.  We have today just all these scattered BT sites where a comment here and a comment there are being buried and there is minimal tutorial-user self help going on because of this. The result is a dead in the water tutorial user.  This portends a lower adoption rate of the software, don't you see? The tutorials 1&2 are great but some unresolved mistakes in tutorial 3 are fatal and fatal for the remaining tutorials 4+ to the extent that they build on the same B2BSolution in tutorial3. See, if you abandon potential Bt customers which the tutorial users are, customers will abandon BT2006. Free up some staff to stay with the tutorial user community forever.   Msft has many billions in cash today and it does not need to go back to stockholders as dividend payouts.  The cash can be put to good work improving the quality of the tutorials and customer experience for one.   BTW Msft's BT Customer Response team has also been awol regarding the BT tutorials since october 2006  as far as the posts on their site seem to indicate. Please make a central BT user forum today, and please provide links from all the other BT sittes to direct the tutorial and new users there, and please monitor it forever for one or two hours a day.  I know msft has the cash to pay for this software quality effort, I can see the cash value for MSFT stock on the finance sites. Thank you for reading.

Hi, Thanks for providing such detailed feedback. I do want to let you know that we have resources on the tutorial and the issues for tutorial 3 are being identified and fixed. Can you send Liza or myself your e-mail address so one of us can follow up with you directly? Thanks, -luke

Hello, Any chance there is an error free copy of the BT 2006 Tutorials out there now?  I'm diving into the BT arena and I'd like to start out fresh and clean, with no typos n such to slow me down.  By the way, is there a tech type forum out there for the issues in BT that I'm sure will arise? Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, Hopefully we have identified, diagnosed, corrected, and verified the majority of the errors in the tutorials that caused the most user difficulty. I can't promise you an error and trouble free tutorial experience, but I can promise that if you run into trouble with the tutorials and contact me, I will do everything in my power to assist you and to make any corrections to the documentation. I've made a number of corrections to the tutorials which are available in the most recently published refresh of the documentation (2/26/07).  You can download the updated docs here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3294ddaf-9f67-409f-a92d-2f6070dc0d1a&DisplayLang=en. In addition to using the latest update of the documentation, make sure you are using the latest tutorial support files. You can install them by clicking http://blogs.msdn.com/lizal/attachment/649048.ashx">http://blogs.msdn.com/lizal/attachment/649048.ashx. We are working with the BizTalk Server R2 team to update these files in the product. The downloadable Word versions of the tutorials are currently out of sync with the updated documentation, I will update these as soon as I am able. (Before You Begin the Tutorials, Step 6: Print the Tutorials). When you perform the tutorials, if you find any errors, or run into any difficulty, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can send mail to me directly (lizal@microsoft.com), contact me through my blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/lizal/), or use the feedback link in the documentation topic you are having trouble with. Thanks, Liza
