Flic Bluetooth Barcode Scanner

I have an executive presentation today at the Conference Center and one of the demos that I'll be presenting is a Line of Business Sales Force application that talks to a Dynamics AX backend. A sales person would use this application to help him/her take orders, manage routes etc. One of the features of this application is to be able to allow the Sales person to scan barcodes of products that are on the shelves that needed refilling and this has to be done in a very quick and efficient manner, no changing screens, clicking on drop down boxes etc.

 

I couldn't get my hands on one of those huge Symbol scanners but we managed to get an even more impressive product called the Flic Microvision Laser Barcode Scanner that is cordless and operates via Bluetooth. Thanks to the folks at Flic for helping us out. It's about the same size of a HTC Hermes.

 

Installation is a snap. Just install the Flic Wedge software on your PPC and use it to pair up the devices. After that you can configure how the scanner returns the information to your application, either with a carriage return at the end or not, or even a tab. Pretty flexible.

The barcodes you see above are Code39 barcodes generated from here and here. Code 39 barcodes allow you to make barcodes out of any alphanumeric string.

Let's hope the Murphy doesn't visit me today.

    There are a couple of additional resources you should know about for the Flic Cordless Laser Bar Code Scanner. There is Scanner Wedge for Windows Mobile Software that allows you to scan from the Flic scanner into any active application window running on your windows mobile device. http://www.flicscanner.com/products/swwm You can also use the free Software Development Kit available from Microvision to more tightly integrate the Flic Scanner into your app. http://www.flicscanner.com/developers

    SerialMagic software form http://serialio.com has runs Microvision Rov scanner (replaces Flic scanner) on BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 5,6 Windows Mobile Smartphone 5,6, Palm OS, Symbian, and more. Serialio.com sells the Microvision scanner under the LaserChamp brand name.

    The Flic Laser Bar Code Scanner has now been replaced with the ROV Laser Bar Code Scanner. Same form factor and connectivity via Bluetooth to Windows and Windows Mobile devices. The big difference is that the ROV Scanner now uses Microvision core MEMS scanning technology in the scan engine assembly.

    another chic device in the bluetooth scanner family is the Microvision ROV Scanner which is a 1D laser, handheld Barcode Scanner and comes with Microvision’s proprietary MEMS technology. Properties pertinent to MEMS technology make the scanner a very reliabile  device and makes its costs low as compared with other devices of the same quality in the market.
