Live.com just outdid OneNote in napkin math – they solve for variables now

This is great - did you notice that www.live.com now supports variables in its napkin math functionality? Try going there and typing 5x-2=0, like this:

When you carry out your search by hitting Enter, Live solves for x:

So it solves for x = 2/5, or .4. Nice!  It even gives you the standard search results, too.

I'm going to play around with this and see how far it goes. It's totally coincidental that this got deployed right about the same time I was mentioning the napkin math automation I'm working on...

Since our search engine now “beats” OneNote at this, I thought it would be worth mentioning.
