Watch the UK Foot and Mouth outbreak spread
Well hopefully not, but this is how it looks at the moment...
Here in the UK, during the great floods of 2007 we were pretty late in getting the situation covered on Virtual Earth and I moaned to the Director of our Online Services Group (MSN and stuff like that) about it. He promised me that they were taking steps to be better prepared for this kind of stuff in the future and it's worked - here's the latest information on the outbreak.
I like the fact they've taken advantage of the drawing tools to show the exclusion zones and then put pushpins in the appropriate places for more information. Remember, this is all stuff you can do by using Virtual Earth - there's no special sauce code that Microsoft have cooked up - it's completely roll your own stuff here.
I emailed the Director again today, first to congratulate him on the speed to get this together, but also to moan that there's no bird's eye view imagery and no mention of the second outbreak. Never stand still, that's what I say - now watch this space :-)
