Thanks for your comments during the meeting today... My main question a bit better explained is this... I did the upgrade path of 551,552 & 554.. Since 553 was just the MCTS for Web & Win will there be something like that again So that MCPD Web to MCPD ASP.NET will give MCTS ASP.NET requirement MCPD WIndows to MCPD Windows 3.5 will give you the Windows MCTS Will they the only parts of say Part 1 and Part 2 covers WCF, ADO and the Pro? Suppose its a bit far off to expect a definitive answer at this point? Also in relation to the Master certification which came in only at the end of the presentation and that really tweaked my interest!!! Any more on that????

Hi Aaron, Hopefully you didn't miss the meeting as a result.  I know you are using the standard calendar but my PC is using the Gerry calendar.  Always a day behind but a day ahead at the same time.  :-) Sorry for the confusion. Gerry

Hi Gerry, Thanks for the presentation. It was very well put together and i think it gave everyone a very good idea of how to proceed with certifications. I don't think it could have been explained any clearer. Also, i think the new 3.5 certifications/upgrades are very well planned. Very smooth transition from .Net 2.0 and much better structured than the old MCAD/MCSD. The one complaint i guess i have though is the long time some of the certifications will take time to go live. The MCTS level 70-561 & 70-562 won't go live until August. The PRO level & Upgrade from .Net 2.0 exams won't go live until November. I'm sure planning certification exams, getting feedback via the beta exams and all that is a lot of complicated work :). I guess SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 being released in the same year won't have helped either. But still, the exams being released 1 year after the VS 2008/.net 3.5 release is a bit late, especially considering that the timespan of a .net/VS version is only 3 years before the next version is released. I've been getting career conscious lately and try to master the new version of asp.net as soon as it is released. Waiting until November to give the PRO level exams is going to be agonizing :)

I made the decision to go for the 70-536 certification after following your webcast. With 20+ years in another language (DataFlex & VDF) I realized that in order to find a job that doesn't require me to relocate, I need to update my skill sets. Currently I have a 90-day trial of Visual Studios 2008 along with a 2003 version loaded on my laptop.  The recommended books for 70-536 are built around VS 2005 and .Net Framework 2.0. Do I plug through the manuals using VS 2008 or should I find and use a copy of VS 2005? If so, is there any problems with loading VS 2005 after 2008? And, are there trial copies of the VS 2005 available? msdn@JamesMcLeod.net

Hi Tarique, I'm glad the Live Meetings are successful and valuable for you when preparing for certifications. I know that a lot of people wonder about the lag in certain exams hitting market and why some seem to take longer than others. There are many contributing factors to this such as budgets, identification of experts to work on them, length of time to create them, number of qualified participants taking the beta exams, and I could go on and on.   I actually like the fact that the Pro level exams are delayed because it gives developers enough time to actually learn the new features of a product and become, "Pros" using the technology.  It gives you time to prepare. You shouldn't see similar delays for the next version of Visual Studio and .NET however. Gerry
