Mark, So do you have Live Onecare installed? Or did you just use the free online scanner? If you do not have any current 3rd party firewalls installed do you get any errors when you attempt to start the firewall? /Steve

Hello Marwan, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. Live OneCare has its own firewall. Because two firewalls should not be running at the same time, Windows Live OneCare turns off Windows Firewall. Thanks, -brian

Hello Gurdeep, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. Can you provide information about your computer?

  • What operating system are you running (Windows XP, Windows Vista)?

  • What service pack are you running (SP1, SP2, SP3)? Do you have any error messages when you try to stop the service or when the computer reboots? If so what are the error messages that pertain to the Windows Firewall? Do you have more than one firewall installed on the computer? Thanks, -brian

Dear sir/ madam, i'm unable to turn on my firewall; i tried "fix it" in your support web site but it did not help; it is still in grey colour and not allowing me to chose the on option which is the recommended one. i have live one care service and do not have any other antivirus; i used to have AVG but has been uninstalled now.

I was able to use Yahoo Games until I down loaded Yahoo Messenger.  Now I can get to the yahoo sign in for spam, etc.  Then I can not get into the game itself.  At the bottom it states DONE, but the page is blank.  It states click here if a problem opening page.  I have clicked it and no games.  Help! Thank you.

Hello, My laptop has just been upgraded from XP service pack 2 to Xp service pack 3. The windows firewall does not start on boot up, and I need to start it manually from the control panel. If I select restart from the windows shut down panel I get the error:- Explorer exe. Application error, and the message:- The application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000142) I have tried system restore, but no joy. I have to use task manager each time and click new task, and select C:/ from the drop down menu, before the quick launch tool bar finally boots. I have tried using the fix from here but it does not alter the problem. I would be most grateful if you have any ideas on how to solve.

The same what had happened to the Automatic Update, the option for us to check was unavailable too. I do it from the Control Panel under System, but no result.                                 Thank you.

Didn't work for me, Running windows XP pro, on a domain, firewall GP not configured, event log error Error 0x80004015: the class is configured to run as a security ID different from the caller. Followed solution:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSharedAccessSecurity

  1. Delete the Security registry subkey Reboot & the firewall is on, but once computer is restarted firewall is off and will not come on until the solution is followed again

I get messages from Windows Security telling me my firewall is turned off but I go to turn it on but it is already turned on. I tried to download fulltilt poker but I get a message telling me fulltilt is not applicable with Windows 32. I can't access the internet at all, I keep getting a message this page is unavilable. When I turn my PC off it just restarts itself. All this has started happening since Windows Updates occured and service pack 3 was downloaded. Could this be the problem?

I am having the same problem. I run WinXP and since upgrading to SP3 Live Onecare complains it cannot switch on the Windows Firewall. I have tried going directly to Win Firewall but all options are greyed out. I have tried from Onecare Quick Links and it shows Firewall as Off - so I select Firewall On - and it allows me to do that but then it fails to actually start the firewall. How can this be fixed?  Thanks.

My firewall settings are blocking access to IP Address for Internet access, when I click on the "firewall Icon to open it, I get a single beep, then an error is brought up which says   "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running."
