Hello Larry, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. This Fix it actually disables USB storage devices. Are you attempting to block access to your storage device or are you not able to get a storage device to work? Thanks, -brian

I'm confused.  The knowledge base article, "How can I prevent users from connecting to a USB storage device?" located at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823732 lists resolutions for both: If a USB storage device is not already installed on the computer -and- If a USB storage device is already installed on the computer This fix it tool is listed to rectify "if a USB storage device is already installed". What is not clear to me if the fix it tool resolves if a "device is not already installed" and prevents those as well.  The title of this tool "Disable USB storage devices" leads you to believe it does, but by what means? Does the tool change the permissions for Usbstor.pnf and Usbstor.inf as described for the "not already installed" solution?  I found that to not be the case on my system after running the tool. It would be very helpful if after accepting the license agreement for the tool to actually be given a description of what the tool is about to do and give the user the opportunity to continue or cancel.  As it is now, it just runs with no further warning or info. It would also be very helpful to be able to undo this action.  There are no information or means to reverse this action provided.  I was hoping this blog would include this information, but it does not.

We have blocked the USB access to the limited user in domain using group policy & batch file . This policy is working fine with USB drives which are alreay used but whenever user not having USB access connect a new USB drive it detects the USB drive automativally & user get the access & after restarting the system the access get blocked. So How can be blocked detection of new USB drive for the USB disabled users in domain ?

Someone is installing a keylogger on my computer, can these instructions stop it from working? I also don't want anyone to be able to use my dvd/cd recorders (or whatever they are called) to copy anything from my computer. What do i do? Thank you very much. Peggy
