Cracking up...

About 15 years ago, I was skiing at Snoqualmie. Coming fast downhill, I caught an edge, popped both skis, and slammed face first into the ground. I couldn't breathe for about two minutes, and came away with a cracked rib.

Sunday, I was skiing at Stevens Pass, and repeated the maneuver, with the exception of the "unable to breathe" part, but including the cracked rib part. It's not as bad as last time, but it does mean that I can't do much bike riding or lifting for a month or so. Luckily, it's pretty early in the bike season, so I'm not going to miss much.

Last time I did this, I went on a 4-day ski vacation after the injury, so I'm pretty sure I can still ski.

Feel better man. I'm actually going to Tahoe on Friday, and reading this actually makes me scared to go.

Expect a new video in a few months ;)

Ouch... time to try snowboarding! Give it 2 full days (with time to recover after each of course), and you'll never look back.

    How about prevention?
(ski lessons before attempting a "Coming fast downhill" stunt?)

    ;)

    Srdjan,

yeah, well, I've been taking lessons for the last 5 years, and the fall was right in front of my instructor.

(BTW, I ski most black and some double black (if conditions are good))

    Eric,
    I was just kidding...
I've been subscriber of your blog for a long time and always liked to read about things, aside from c#, that we happened to share interest in: I also ride and ski...

All the best, and fast recovery... P.S. Whistler!
(it has nothing to do with software!)

Sure beats getting bucked from a snowmobile at 60 mph face-first into a tree. All the best to your recovery, though.

I'm also surprised you found enough snow to ski on, or was it the lack of snow that caused you to pop your skis?

    Srdjan,

I assumed you were kidding, as was I.

Whistler doesn't have that good of a rep this season, so I don't think I'll bother. If I was going to go on a trip, I'd probably end up somewhere south of here

    Heath,

Though there isn't much of it, the snow was really pretty good. There were a few places where you might be surprised when it got scraped down and no shortage of rocks, but much better than I've feared. I've skied worse snow during normal seasons.

The lack of snow was not really contributory. I was trying out some new technique, and that was likely contributory.
